My punting day - thank you Millie
No not aftertiming, this was my betting day. I thought someone might find it interesting what my bets were today (and why) and what happened-
1.00 Leicester
Backed Watar Allstar at 16/1. Andy Irvine (Zoe Davison) trained dour stayer type who might like the longer trip. And he duly dourly stayed on into 4th - loser.
1.30 Leicester
Speculative small bet on This Breac at 8/1 this morning (missed the 10/1 earlier this morning and the 20/1 last night). But he is 3lb lower than when winning this last year at big odds. Despite never looking like doing so Bryony got his head in front again. Result.
2.05 Leicester
Backed Little Light, also ridden by Bryony Frost. My theory here was that she could have ridden Eclair de Guye (who she won on last time) for Lucy Wadham at Sandown but had gone to Leicester instead. Little Light started at the back and stayed there throughout - loser. Bryony obviously went to Leicester for This Breac!
2.13 Fontwell
My money was on Right Hand of God. For reasons I cannot now explain he was in my tracker. Drifted dramatically in the betting, and was obviously not the first choice for the Moore yard. "One pace from 3 out" - loser.
3.58 Fontwell
Just Henny at 20/1 (SP 20/1 as well). Remarkably the 16 runners stood their ground so there was each-way 4 places. Feeling confident 4 hurdles from home. Just Henny then fell at the 3rd from home. Loser (but might be worth tracking).
4.50 Sandown
2 bets here, both each way. Conkwell Legend at 11/1 (seemed ok handicapped but ridden by the excellent Millie Wonnacott with her 7lb claim), and Gastara at 17/2, who was in my tracker. The former won at a SP of 7/2 (thank you Millie) and Gastara was 3rd at SP of 17/2.
So a small but happy profit on the day. All I need is Elusif to win in the 7.30 at Chelmsford and it could be a good day.
* Update Elusif is a non-runner - but I am sure he would have won!
And the rather maudling feeling that I would have loved to have been at Leicester, Sandown or Fontwell watching the action. Let us hope we can soon.
